Many friends don’t know the differences of flat expanded metal and raised expanded metal so that they’re not clear that they should choose which one. In the following, I will tell you the differences between flat expanded metal and raised expanded metal.

Raised Expanded Metal Mesh, also named Standard Expanded Metal Mesh or Regular Expanded Metal Mesh, has the features of durable, economical, versatile, and easy installation.  Expanded metal is fabricated by cut and stretched. The strands and bonds of the expanded metal form a uniform angle with the plane of expanded metal sheet which makes the final product not only having high strength and rigidity but maintaining the skid resistance and max air circulation. The expanded metal mesh surface is raised slightly, which is good for keeping the anti-skidding performance of metal.

Flattened expanded metal is expanded metal that has been cold flattened, leaving a smooth, flat surface with diamond shaped openings. Flattened expanded metal from Huijin is durable , economical, versatile and is available in many material options, such as carbon steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. During this process, the length of the sheet is elongated, usually by about 5%. After flattened, the expanded sheet will take leveling process to maintain its flatness. 

In conclusion, when you have high requirements of hardness and anti-skid performance, I recommend Raised Expanded Metal Mesh. But if a smooth and flat surface is desired, I suggest flat expanded metal.
